The Rwenzori mountain range is an up-and-coming source of consistently high-quality Ugandan green coffee beans. Genuine Origin’s sourcing partners on the ground established receiving stations throughout the mountain range to facilitate cherry collection before transporting them to a centralized wet mill, where processing can be carried out under careful supervision and quality control.
The Rwenzoris are known for producing high-quality unroasted natural coffees. This coffee was grown in altitudes ranging from 1300-1900masl and collected via the receiving stations, where farmers were paid double what they’re used to getting for “drugars” (dried Ugandan Arabica). Much of Uganda’s green coffee used to be made up of drugar grade coffees that were inconsistent and often of poor quality. As a result, farmers struggled to earn much cash from these harvests. The new receiving stations and updated washing stations are changing that. The new infrastructure enables coffee cherries to be delivered and processed into high-quality unroasted green coffees.
