From grind size to water temperature to brew time, the SCA Brewing module provides hands-on education for grind profiles, brewing methods, measuring coffee strength, and charting extraction.

  • Manual coffee brewing methods and operations
  • Extraction theory
  • Understanding and manipulating the variables that affect coffee brewing

Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) certification classes consist of lectures, hands-on skill training, exam review, and some applicable exams.

Kaleena Teoh is a co-founder at Coffee Project NY, the Academy’s Director of Education and a certified AST (Authorized SCA Trainer) and oversees all Academy lesson plans and curricula. She has a background in psychology, speech pathology, and social work and is fluent in Chinese, Japanese, and American Sign Language.

Professional-level classes are worth 25 points toward the 100-point SCA Coffee Skills Diploma requirement. Recommended follow-up classes are Foundation or Intermediate levels in any other Coffee Skills Module. For more program details, see SCA Pathway Information.

All SCA exam and certification fees are included in the cost for tickets. Exams and certification are optional for students who take class recreationally.
Currently, we do not offer discounted pricing for SCA Members.

Due to highly limited seating and the cost of producing each class, we kindly ask that if you need to change or cancel your reservation, please let us know as soon as possible. While we don’t offer refunds for classes, we will accommodate changes based on when you reach out to us and how much advance notice is given before the date of the reservation.

  • Over 4 weeks notice: free rescheduling or credit of equal value toward any class
  • Under 4 weeks notice: $50 rescheduling fee or credit of original value minus $50
  • Under 72 hours notice: 50% rescheduling fee or credit of 50% of original class value
  • Under 24 hours notice: no credit available

Please purchase classes carefully. Thank you for understanding.
