ABOUT US

Coffee Project New York envisions a coffee community we can all be proud of.

In 2015, Coffee Project New York co-founders Chi Sum Ngai and Kaleena Teoh quit their jobs and opened a coffee shop as a passion project in New York City’s East Village neighborhood.

Ten years, several more shops, and thousands of coffees later, our business has expanded to include retail, roasting, wholesale, and education, taking a holistic approach to specialty coffee.

Our Mission

Our mission as a coffee business is to improve the quality of life for every person in the coffee supply chain, from producers to consumers.

Sustainability

Our coffees are carefully selected to reflect the ethos of contributing to one’s community. Many are sourced from cooperatives and family farms that focus on improving work and living conditions for farm workers.

We use our purchasing power to promote fair pricing for coffee producers. When direct trade isn’t possible, we work with responsible importers who care about the livelihoods of coffee farmers.

Training Lab

Coffee Project New York’s Long Island City location includes New York’s first Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Premier Training Campus, created to serve coffee professionals and enthusiasts alike.

Equipment includes the Ground Control Cyclops batch brewer, a Tone Touch 3 pour over brewer, a variety of grinders and manual brewing devices, and four cutting-edge espresso machines: a Victoria Arduino Black Eagle Maverick, a Victoria Arduino Eagle 1, a La Marzocco Linea PB AV, and a Faema E71E.

Roastery

Our roasting team, overseen by Head Roaster Chi Sum Ngai, uses diligence, quality control, and attentive sampling to develop roast profiles that showcase each coffee’s unique story. The roastery uses a San Franciscan SF25, an SF1 for sample roasting, and a fully electric halogen roaster, the Stronghold S7 Pro, for small-batch competition coffees.

Our roastery retails worldwide, wholesales nationwide, and offers roaster training classes.
